Mark Decker YN2 works on the Sound Powered phone system outside the Yeoman's Shack, while Douglas Ray EM1 checks out the motor controllers around the boat.

 

 

LT Gorey and Jason Allnutt MT2 scrub the deck in the Crew's Mess, while Dave Thames discusses Torsk's electrical situation with Al Becker and Lewart Simmons ETC.

 

Harry Powell accepts a USS Maryland Plaque from Jason Allnutt MT2 for the Museum's collection.

LT Tom Gorey and Frank Morgan. LT Gorey was a TM aboard USS Barbel (a diesel boat sailor!!) and later became an officer.

The USS Maryland Plaque hanging in the Wardroom aboard Torsk. It's located where the public can easily view it when they pass through the boat.

This is a list of what the Maryland Crew accomplished aboard Torsk during their week in Baltimore:

1.) #6 Torpedo Tube Vent Valve repaired.
2.) Grove reducer for Fresh Water Tanks #1 & #2 adjusted to 10psi.
3.) Reducer bypass valve for Fresh Water Tanks #1 & #2 repaired, and handwheel replaced.
4.) Fold-up sink bowl in XO's Stateroom repaired, and water tested.
5.) Fold-up sink leak in CO's Stateroom repaired, and water tested.
6.) Ice Machine drainline cleared, compressor serviced, and FW supply
check. Ice Machine is now functional.
7.) Scuttlebutt drain line cleared, FW supply line checked and cleared. Scuttlebutt is now functional.
8.) Forwardmost head in crew's head made operational.
9.) Missing discharge valve for #2 sanitary tank installed in crew's head.
10.) Removed under sink piping from crew's head sinks for overhaul and cleaning.
11.) Yarway for #2 sanitary tank made operational.
12.) Yarway for #1 sanitary tank inspected.
13.) Several lockers in crew's mess area repaired.
14.) Deep cleaning of Officer's Pantry.
15.) All bulkhead flapper valves lubricated. Several stuck ones made operational.
16.) All watertight doors lubricated, and exercised.
17.) HP Air manifold overhauled. All valves lubricated, and several stuck valves made operational.
18.) SPA-8 Radar Repeater inspected. All tubes tested, diagramed, and unit thoroughly cleaned.
19.) SS2 Radar components inspected. Several components rusted internally.
20.) Portside pull-out bunk mount installed in FTR.
21.) Additional bunks installed in FTR.
22.) Additional bunks installed in Crew's Berthing.
23.) Mattresses and Flash-Covers placed on any bunk missing them.
24.) Torsk's WWII US Flag mounted in FTR next to Battle Flag.
25.) Deck in Crew's Mess thoroughly scrubbed.
26.) Deck in Control Room thoroughly scrubbed.
27.) Supply of Vacuum Tubes sorted, organized, and stored.
28.) Coffee Urn drain line cleared.
29.) SP phone jacks repaired throughout the boat.
30.) Growler in Control Room repaired.
31.) Survey of Radio Room to determine missing equipment for possible replacement.
32.) Thorough cleaning of Yeoman's Shack.
33.) Inboard & Outboard Exhaust Valves in FER greased and exercised. All are functioning.
34.) Snorkel induction and exhaust valves greased. Several freed.
35.) Scope clamps moved to Conning Tower in preparation of E&E installation.
36.) TCS10/12 Radio inspected for future restoration, and found to be in good condition.
37.) Maneuvering Room Recirc Fan Controller inspected. Unit requires general cleaning, starting resistors require replacement, and Right Hand Aux Controller requires overhaul.
38.) Ship's Hull Main Supply/Exhaust Blower Controller inspected. Unit requires replacement. Signs of a previous fire evident.
39.) Ship's Hull Main Supply Fan Motor inspected. Brushes require replacement.
40.) HiPac Controllers and Resistor Bank inspected. Both controllers require replacement.
41.) FER Lube Oil Pump Controller inspected. Unit require starting resistor replacement, and contactors require refurbishment or replacement.
42.) FER Lube Oil Purifier Controller inspected. Unit requires complete overhaul.
43.) Drain Pump Motor Controller inspected. Unit requires general cleaning.
44.) Steering Gear Motor Controller inspected. Unit requires general cleaning, and upper left auxiliary contactor loose.
45.) #1 MG Controller inspected. Main line contactor stiff.
46.) #2 MG Controller inspected. Unit requires general cleaning.
47.) Forward Battery Air Conditioning Controller inspected. Unit requires wiring replacement, starting resistor replacement, and burnishing of auxiliary contactors.
48.) 21MC boxes in Sonar, Plot, and Conning Tower inspected.
