Torsk Work Weekend 7

May 11-13, 2001

SUNDAY

Bob and Larry used the FTR ladder to get to the top of the scope. They sprayed penetrating oil into any bearings that they could find, and removed access plates to get to the ones inside the scope fairing. The also confirmed that grease was making it from the greasing manifold inside the conning tower to the scope bearings.

After the scopes were greased, Bob removed the masthead light fixture for restoration. We hadn't been able to get the fixture loose because it was too hard to hold on and work the tools at the same time. Bob had his climbing gear, and used that to secure himself and use the hammer and cold chisel to get the bolts out and fixture loose. Greg Cotton is handing tools up to Bob.

The view inside the conning tower as work continues. The large white scope clamp will be left on the scope barrel to be used for rotation exercises.
