USS Torsk SS-423

Torpedo Load

September 12-13, 2010

Rigging the loading cap on the MK14. The cap provides a place to attach lines for controlling the fish during descent into the torpedo room

A view of the fish with some of the lines needed to lower it into the boat

Loadmaster Frank and Chief Mike are discussing procedures for the load. Since we are missing the topside gear normally used to load a torpedo, we have to improvise for each load

The aft end of the torpedo is lifted...

It takes a lot of patience and manpower to control a torpedo during a load

The view from inside the Forward Torpedo Room with the MK14 being lifted into position

The nose of the MK14 as it slides slowly onto the receiving skid in the torpedo room
